Camp Huntington Dining Hall
The dining hall at Raquette Lake
is a new building, since the old dining hall burned down in the fires that
destroyed parts of Camp Pine Knot. The dining hall, like all of the other
buildings at Raquette Lake, has a rustic, natural look and feel to it.
The interior walls are all logs, like a cabin, and the ceiling has big
beams like those of an old log cabin. Even the rectangular tables and the
chairs have an "all natural" look and feel to them. The room seats about
75 people. There is a big fireplace at one end, with woodburnings and plaques
on the mantle. There are animal heads mounted all around the room, suggesting
that Durant must have been quite the sportsman. On the right hand side,
almost in the corner, hangs a sign that said "save theÖ" with a hook
underneath on which to hang a wooden utensil that was to be saved and used
for dessert. The dining hall staff consists of Miss Kate, the cook, and
Peggy, her assistant.
